Lyndon & Sue Medlyn Wedding 1986
We kick off our weddings series with a local couple who are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary today. Lyndon and Susan Medlyn (née Wood) were married in the Pebble Church on February 8th, 1986. Approximately 110 guests attended their special day, one that was extremely hot!
Sue was attended by three bridesmaids, Georgie Tresider, Deirdre Medlyn and Sherree Medlyn. Lyndon’s best man was Paul Horsfall, and his groomsmen were Rob Medlyn and Willy Hall.
The couple were married by the then Uniting Church minister, Rev Jean Shadforth, so they had to gain permission from the Anglican Church, to allow their wedding to be held at the Pebble Church.
A fond memory of the ceremony that both Lyn and Sue recall, was the light streaming through one of the stunning leadlight windows, as they signed the register. Also, as the newly wed couple walked out of the Church, a stream of fire trucks with lights and sirens awhirl, flew past. Lyn commented that he should be on one of the trucks, and with that, promptly received his first wifely glare as a married man!
The Medlyn families have a strong connection to the Pebble Church, now spanning six generations. As the Medlyns have farmed in the area for much of that time, the Pebble Church was their “local” church.
Lyn’s grandfather, George Medlyn was married there in 1920, as were other members of both sides of his family. There were also the regular church services, Sunday school, christenings, picnics and funerals. Reportedly, the Medlyns always sat on the second pew on the right.
If you were married at the Pebble Church, or know someone who was, we’d love to feature your special day. Feel free to get in touch with us via FB Messenger or e-mail: pebblechurch@gmail.com
